With so many fun motifs and naval concepts to choose from, putting together a cohesive nautical themed wedding is a cinch. Check out these suggestions for some key elements, and you and your guests will be sure to have a grand seafaring time.

Creative Colors

The color scheme can be simple–navy blue and white– but make it your own by adding touches of gold or another light or medium blue accent color. Consider some fun sailor stripes as well! Striped accents could be found on shoes, napkins, chair sashes, or wedding programs.

Rope Decor

Using rope in creative ways will definitely add that extra touch. Accent table numbers or signage with rope and tie a sailor’s knot around your invitations. In lieu of a unity candle lighting, you could consider actually “tying the knot” with your fiancé! This will work especially well if your ceremony is outdoors.

A Repeated Motif

Choose a motif that you can easily incorporate into several details - a single, specific item is best - such as an anchor, lighthouse, or compass rose. Get a rubber stamp of the design and use it on invitations, programs, thank you’s, and party favors. The motif could also be used on cuff links, napkins, and the cake topper – or any aspect of the decor!

Guest Bottle, not book

Ask your guests to write and sign little notes and drop them in a large glass bottle upon arriving at your reception in place of a traditional guest book. You’ll have your very own ‘message in a bottle’ to read on your anniversary!

Photos

Snapping some photos on a dock or boat will really capture your nautical wedding theme. Better yet, consider arriving or exiting via boat for added effect.

Themed Accents

Need some more imagery or decor ideas? Consider bringing in seashells, sand, sea glass, maps, lifesavers, anchors, oars, and a ship wheel. Check out these albums of nautical themed weddings or Pinterest for further inspiration! From rope accents to shells and anchors, a nautical theme is sure to capture the whimsical and romantic essence of your big day.
