Walking Trail

The Dakota Rail Regional Trail is now open and ready for use! This 13.5 mile paved trail is located adjacent to the Club's main entrance and offers a spectacular view of Lake Minnetonka. The trail follows the route of the former Dakota Rail Corridor through St. Bonifacius, Minnetrista, Mound, Spring Park, Minnetonka Beach, Orono, and Wayzata.

The Dakota Rail Regional Trail is open from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm and accommodates walking, running, biking, rollerblading, dog walking and any other non-motorized use.

Parking Tips:

Wayzata-
* There are very few spots available that are identified as parking for trail users at 192 Grove Lane.
* In order to utilize a parking spot identified as by permit only, stop by Wayzata City Hall for a Beach Parking Sticker for $30.00.
* Boatworks parking during the week is at a premium, and is discouraged.
* Other thoughts–park on the south side of the Wayzata Bay Center east of the garden market, or other places around town and bike to the trail head on the south side of Lake Street and
Grove Lane.

Orono-
* There is a parking area at Shoreline Drive and Orono Orchard Road located just off of County Road 15

Minnetonka Beach-
* Parking is available around City Hall, located at 2945 Westwood Rd. S.

Mound-
* The Mound Transit Center has plenty of free parking

St. Bonifacius-
* There is plenty of parking right by the St Bonifacius City Administration Office.


Finding Your Way:

Maps showing the entire Dakota Rail Trail are located at the beginning, middle and end.
About every two miles, a new segment map and aerial photo show your location, nearby restrooms and other services. About every mile, directional signs point the way and provide distances to trailheads and points of interest in the surrounding communities.


Lane Courtesy:

* Stay to the right on the trail, and give an audible warning when passing on left
* Move off trail when stopped
* Yield to slower trail users
* Cross center line only when passing


Safety:
* Wear your helmet
* Obey all traffic signs. Use caution at all road intersections
* Proceed carefully. Watch for trail traffic and wildlife
* Use speed appropriate for conditions
* Trails are routinely patrolled and maintained by Three Rivers Park District Staff


Trail Rules:

For the safety and enjoyment of all trail users, please observe and practice the following trail rules:
* No motorized vehicles or horses
* Obey traffic signs and rules
* Yield to slower trail users
* Keep right except when passing
* Warn others when passing
* Respect adjoining landowner’s rights and privacy
* BE ALERT–BE COURTEOUS
* Dogs must be on a 6-foot non-retractable leash and should not interfere with other trail users
* Dog-walkers must clean up after their dogs
