Local Golf Rules

In all cases not covered by Local Rules noted below, the USGA Rules of Golf govern play at
Lafayette Club. However, due to the history of the Club and the defined space within which we operate, an extensive list of Local Rules has been established.

Direct Water Hazard (between holes #1 and #2, between holes #6 and #7):
Under penalty of one stroke
a. play next shot from point where original shot was played, or
b. play next shot from designated Drop Area, or
With no penalty
a. play next shot from hazard without grounding club.

Entering Road (Holes #1, 5, 7, 8):
If a ball hits or enters a road within the boundaries of the course, potential relief is determined by where the ball comes to rest.
a. If the ball is lost or comes to rest out of bounds, in the road, or in the slope of the road bed, the player shall play the next shot in line with point of entry on the side of the road away from the hole. No penalty. The player has the option of playing a ball in the slope of the road bed as it lies.
b. If the ball comes to rest through the road in bounds, it must be played as it lies.

Flower Gardens:
Except as noted in Hole-by-Hole Local Rules on page 16, when a ball comes to rest in a Flower Garden within the boundaries of the course and the ball is found, you MUST lift and drop within one club length from nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole. No penalty. If the ball is not found, normal lost ball rules apply.

Hitting Vehicle:
If a ball hits a non-golf cart or golf maintenance vehicle within the boundaries of the course, whether the vehicle is moving or at rest, whether it is rolling on the ground or on the fly, it MUST be replayed. No penalty.

Newly Planted and Relocated Trees (defined by guy wire or rope supporting it):
If the ball comes to rest where a guy wire or rope supporting such a tree interferes with your stance or swing, you may lift and drop within one club length from nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole. No penalty.

In all other circumstances, including where the ball comes to rest in the tree, under the tree or where the tree or its supporting guy wire or rope interferes with a line of sight, you may either play the ball as it lies or take an unplayable lie. One stroke penalty.

Retaining Walls:

(Holes #4, 7), Paddle Tennis Court (Holes #3, 4, 9) or Outdoor Restroom (Holes #4, 5):
If the ball comes to rest where such an obstacle interferes with your stance or swing, you may lift and drop within one club length from nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole or the designated drop area. No penalty. Ball must be played if it comes to rest in wood chips.

Telephone or Power Pole or Wires (Hole #1 and 8):
If a ball hits such a pole or wire within the boundaries of the course, whether it is rolling on the ground or on the fly, it MUST be replayed. No penalty.

100 Yard Markers (Arborvitae trees used to mark distance):
If the ball comes to rest where such a tree interferes with your stance or swing, you may lift and drop within one club length from nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole. No penalty. There is no such relief for line of sight interference.
